Curriculum Vitae
Konstantinos Boulouchos, geboren im Jahr 1955 in Griechenland, erhielt sein Diplom in Maschineningenieurwesen von der Nationalen Technischen Universität Athen 1978 und promovierte 1984 an der ETH Zürich im Bereich Thermodynamik und Verbrennungskraftmaschinen. Es folgten Forschungstätigkeiten als Post-Doktorand an der ETH und als Visiting Scientist an der Universität Princeton (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, 1987 - 1988). Ende 1988 kehrte Konstantinos Boulouchos an die ETH zurück, wo er für den Aufbau einer Forschungsgruppe zu instationären Verbrennungsprozessen zuständig war.
1995 wurde Konstantinos Boulouchos zum Leiter des Labors für Verbrennungsforschung am Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) ernannt. Bis 2005 koordinierte er dann auch das gemeinsame Programm für Verbrennungsforschung der ETH Zürich und des PSI. Seit 2002 ist er ordentlicher Professor und Leiter des Laboratoriums für Aerothermochemie und Verbrennungssysteme an der ETH Zürich. Er stand dem Leitungsausschuss des Energy Science Center (ESC) an der ETH Zürich vom Gründungsjahr 2005 bis 2011 vor und war koordinierender Autor der ESC-Studien „Energiestrategie für die ETH Zürich“ (2008) und „Energiezukunft Schweiz“ (2011).
Die Arbeitsschwerpunkte von Prof. Boulouchos liegen im Bereich der Grundlagenforschung laminarer und turbulenter, chemisch reaktiver Systeme in Energieumwandlungstechnologien. Dazu werden synergetisch rechnergestützte Simulationsmethoden und berührungslose, meist laseroptische Messverfahren entwickelt und verwendet. Der Wissenstransfer zur Industrie, speziell im Hinblick auf die Umsetzung neuer Technologien für die Realisierung von energieeffizienten, nahezu "Null-Emission"-Verbrennungssystemen ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Arbeit von Konstantinos Boulouchos. In letzter Zeit arbeitet er auch an der Entwicklung bestmöglicher Strategien für ein von Nachhaltigkeit geprägtes globales und nationales Energiesystem.
Professor Boulouchos hat unter anderem den Distinguished Paper Award on New Technology Concepts des Combustion Institute Pittsburgh, die Arch T. Colwell-Medaille der Society of Automotive Engineers/USA, den Innovationspreis der Deutschen Gaswirtschaft und den SENSOR Innovationspreis der Gesellschaft für Sensorik/Deutschland erhalten.
Konstantinos Boulouchos ist (Co-)Autor von mehr als 150 Publikationen in referierten Zeitschriften und an „peer-reviewed" internationalen Konferenzen. Er ist zur Zeit an Forschungsprojekten mit etwa 15 nationalen und internationalen Industriepartnern beteiligt. Prof. Boulouchos ist Mitglied des Editorial Board des Journal of Engine Research, des Lenkungsausschusses von CCEM (Swiss Competence Center for Energy and Mobility), des Beirats des Instituts für Fahrzeugkonzepte des DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt), Kuratoriumsmitglied von ProClim (Swiss Forum for Climate and Global Change), sowie Mitglied des wissenschaftlichen Beirats von Bundesrätin Doris Leuthard in Energiefragen.
